Masses more motor boats - listed & sold !! (July 2008)

Want to get on the water but not really interested in all those sails and strings etc. then look no further than www.whitesyachts.com website. While traditionally Whites International Yachts has been known for their range of sailboats this is definitely changing.

Recently we have added a number of fantastic power boats – modern & traditional, large & small, fast & not-so-fast – to our listings. The 2004 Elegance 65 is an absolute stunner, hardly used, professionally maintained and priced to sell. Or maybe you’d prefer the fully MCA coded 2003 Princess 61. Quite a contrast in style is the 68ft De Ruiter/Moonen – a classic charming Dutch steel gentleman’s yacht. While the 1992 Johnson 65 has more up-grades and equipment than one could mention and is certainly a stylish, high performer. And also look at the amazing Azimut 52 and Sunseeker Predator 63. Looking for something smaller then we have a huge range from an immaculate Sealine 38 to the gorgeous Gobbi 425 or 375 or the stylish Apreamare Smeraldo.

However not only are Whites listing they are also selling. Sales in the last month include the brand new 55 ft Rapsody November. By the way we still have one of these stylish and sea worthy beauties available – a 2006 Rapsody November 55 model. Also sold were a lovely Princess V58 and under offer a spacious Bertram 58. Both buyers are now out on the water - just in time to enjoy the sunshine in style.

It certainly seems that the motor boat market is still alive and kicking and we have genuine clients still looking for something to play with this summer. Whether you want to up- or down-size, or just move on why not contact us ... we’d love to help find the right client for your boat.

Swinging Moorings - Port d`Andratx (April 2008)

On the 4th of April 2008 a letter was issued from the Vice-President of the Ports de les Illes Balears, regarding the swinging moorings on the port side of the outer harbour of Port d’Andratx. Basically they wish to clean up the bottom of the harbour and to this end the users of the moorings are obliged to remove their vessels. The Port Authority hopes to have the new moorings laid by mid-July 2008 and requires that any comments regarding this be made within 10 working days.

A number of interested parties have arranged for a meeting to take place at a lawyer’s office in Palma on the 17th of April at 12:30 to discuss the issue.

We have also been in discussion with the Harbourmaster here in Port d’Andratx and understand that the work on the moorings is going to start on the 15th of April with all moorings with no boats on being removed first. He has also said that anyone who has been paying harbour dues while a boat has been on his/her mooring will be on a list. Once the new moorings (possibly island pantalons as in Mahon harbour, Menorca) have been competed the people on this list will have the option of taking one of these places. However at this stage he does not know who will be administering these or what they will cost … so it is all fairly vague at present.

Anyone who actually owns one of these moorings would probably have understood that this was likely to happen at some time in the future. But the fact that they have been given so little notice is causing a great deal of consternation for the owners of the moorings, as finding an alternative place to moor or berth a boat is difficult.

If you have questions or would like further information please send us an email: info@whitesyachts.com. We may not be able to help but are at least trying to keep up-to-date with the situation as it develops and are happy to share whatever knowledge we have.

Refit office in Port Andratx (February 2008)

Refit office in Port Andratx - Whites International YachtsWhites International Yachts has been operating from their current office - opposite Club de Vela - in Port d’Andratx since 1989 and are pleased to announce that a much-needed facelift has now been completed. With new furniture, windows and doors, kitchen and toilet, ceiling and floor this is a markedly more modern and inviting look. What hasn’t changed is the superb coffee-maker … the crew at Whites would welcome the opportunity to share a cup with you while you view the improvements and discuss either the selling of your old boat, the buying of your new one or both. Next time you’re in the area why not pop in for a chat?

RCD - Recreational Craft Directive 2003/44/EC (November 2007)

On the 2nd of November Tim Rowe in association with the YBDSA (Yacht Brokers, Designers and Surveyors Association) gave a Training Seminar regarding the RCD (Recreational Craft Directive), which both Arend Venema and Chris Bird, Whites International Yachts brokers, attended. The RCD was created by the European Commission to provide technical harmonisation for trade within the EEA. This means that all recreational craft (with very few exceptions) between 2.5m and 24m hull length placed on the market or put into service in the EEA must have reached agreed minimum levels of safety to reduce risk of personal injury or risk to the environment. The EEA includes all twenty-five EU States, their overseas territories and dependencies (e.g. Cayman Islands, New Caledonia, Azores, British Virgin Islands etc.) and Iceland and Norway.

A boat does not need to comply with the RCD if it was built in or in use in the EEA prior to 16th of June 1998. What this means is that if as an owner you can prove (e.g. with a marina invoice or statement) that your boat was somewhere in the EEA anytime prior to the 16th of June 1998 you can legally claim your boat is exempt from being RCD compliant. In addition a boat does not need to comply with the RCD if it is only temporarily visiting the EEA for reasons of tourism or transit however the time scales here are undefined.

Second hand vessels placed on the market in the EEA which were not in the EEA prior to the 16th of June 1998 are subject to the RCD. In such cases the person who puts the boat on the market must ensure that it is RCD compliant. This falls into three parts:

  1. Ensuring that the boat physically complies with the RCD Essential Requirements.
  2. Making sure that the Owner’s Manual, Technical File, Declaration of Conformity and Builder’s Plate are all satisfactory.
  3. Lodging an application for a Post-Construction Assessment with a Notified Body who will then issue a report and ultimately a certificate based on this assessment.

Infringement of the RCD can lead to a fine of GBP 5,000 and/or three months imprisonment. If you have any concerns regarding your boat please give us a call or send an email. We would be happy to advise on any individual issues you might have.

France II - ex America´s Cup Racer (September 2007)

France II ex America´s Cup Racer - exclusive yacht for exclusive cruisingWe would like to announce that we have recently listed the stunning 12metre J1 class yacht France II. A magical name that brings back so many stories and challenges….

First, that of Baron Bich who, helped by naval architect André Mauric, undertook the construction of the boat in 1976 at Egger Shipyards in order to compete in the America’s Cup. Then that of John Park Wright III who launched the famous challenge of the Florida Cup at Nioulargue and whose personality has left such an unforgettable mark on all the races of that time. Then finally the present owners who during a freezing December 90 night had a dream: to become the owner of the France II and to carry on it’s fabulous story.

And so began the greatest of challenges: to turn France II into that most beautiful and comfortable cruising boat as well as a top racing machine. A challenge that was a near impossible dream to realize!

Four long years were needed for its transformation, during which dreams became dissolving mirages within days… was she ever going float again one day.

And then suddenly … on a splendid September 95 day, it left its hangar where five marine carpenters had worked in for so long. Under escort, it joined the Mediterranean.

And so France II’s illustrious life began as a classic cruiser racer. She took part in the Saint Tropez Yacht Club Rolex Cup in July 1996. She didn’t come in first, but she wasn’t last either… and took the “Prix de l´Elégance”. And… the second race to come along: the Jury’s Cup in Marseille on the 15th and the 16th September 1996: a magnificent sun, a 15 knots wind, everything to please France II.. and it won all of the rounds! First ahead II Moro di Venezia, La Poste, Calaf, Premier Novembre, etc.

This time, its wasn’t exactly the Prix de l´Elégance which had made the Italians smile so smugly.. France II is very proud of its achievement and of its beautiful cup. She has also taken part in the Royal Regattas of Cannes, finished 4th at the France Yacht Club Autumn Cup and was at Nioulargue.

If you are looking for a handsome performance cruiser then we would recommend that you give France II careful consideration. She has been lovingly transformed from the racer she once was with no expense spared … down below her exceptionally fine mahogany joinery gives an incredible impression of warmth and comfort. Add to this that she is probably one of the fastest blue water cruising yachts on the market. What more could you want?

Germania V - Mallorca Magazin article (June 2007)

Germania - die Yachten des Hauses Krupp (Delius Klasing)We announce that we have listed the “Germania V”, which is a classic 20 m Abeking and Rasmussen steel yawl lying on Mallorca. A German weekly paper called “Mallorca Magazin” has recently interviewed the present owners and is publishing an article about them and their yacht on Thursday the 7th of June.

The name of GERMANIA is famous because of the industrial family Krupp from Essen – Germany, who owned several racing yachts and raced again the German emperor. The history of the Germania yachts is an interesting one dating back to the original “Germania I” which was a schooner built in 1908 and represented a wedding gift from Bertha to her husband Gustav Krupp. Up until 1914 the yacht was a successful competitor in many sailing regattas but was seized by the British in Cowes at the outbreak of World War I. Germania II, III, & IV were all built at the Abeking and Rasmussen yard between 1934 and 1939 and again were successful racing yachts (Class 8mR) built for the Krupp family winning various medals at the Olympic Games over this period. After World War II the Krupp family once again commissioned a new “Germania” and the 20m “Germania V” was born. Once again she was a race boat – this time a 13KR class racer and once again she successfully campaigned in many international competitions. It was not until 1963 that she was superseded by the slightly larger “Germania VI”, which nowadays is still being used as Training Yacht for the “Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach” Foundation.

For more details there is also a beautiful book “GERMANIA – Die Yachten des Hauses Krupp” that was published by Delius Klasing in January this year.

The present owners of “Germania V” have lavished care and attention on her for the last 17 years. She is a real beauty – a classic yacht that turns heads wherever she goes. We would be happy to provide full details to anyone who is interested – just give us a quick call or send an email. We really do recommend her for someone looking for a 20m steel classic yacht either to cruise or race, or enjoy a little of both.

New logo and website launch for Whites International Yachts (March 2007)

Whites International Yachts - new logoWhites International Yachts (Mallorca) have launched their new logo and website, featuring all their international listings.

As Whites International Yachts moves into a new phase of growth and investment, it needed a new website to reflect the company's market leading position, and provide relevant information to their clients.

The site has been developed in house using innovative software. This software facilitates user-friendly editing, which will allow Whites to continually update and develop the site. As a result Whites plan to add additional information to the site in the coming weeks. The site is Search Engine Friendly and has a high ranking. Because of this the site can be found on the first page of many top search engines. The site is set up with simplicity in mind so everybody can easily find what he or she is looking for.

It is a given that an effective marketing campaign is the most important value for selling boats. Whites have proven this with an increase in their inquiries and sales in the last few months. The next step is to increase the number and quality of the boats that they have to offer. Boat owners considering selling are warmly invited to offer their boat to them with no obligation.

Whites Yachts (Mallorca) has been elected as a full broker member of the ABYA (January 2007)

Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents - ABYAWhites International Yachts (Mallorca) is pleased to announce that the Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents (ABYA) Committee has recommended our election as a Full Broker Member and that the Yacht Brokers, Designers & Surveyors Association (YBDSA) Council has been notified of this.

ABYA exists to promote the highest standards of professionalism and expert knowledge in the field of yacht sales, and expects high standards of its members. Membership is only open to existing practising brokers and new boat sales personnel with a proven track record in the industry.

A continuous Professional Development scheme exists to ensure that members update their knowledge regularly and Members work is monitored on a regular basis. The Association holds regular training Seminars and Forums in house and maintains close contact with other professionals in the marine industry such as Law firms and Insurance houses.

In the opinion of the Committee a Full Member is someone who has gained a good reputation, is capable of acting in his own right in conducting business and is capable of dealing with yachts and small crafts of various types and materials.

New ownership of Whites International Yachts (July 2006)

new ownership Whites International Yachts MallorcaBrian and Jill White are proud to inform you that after 17 years involvement in the yacht brokerage Whites International Yachts, they have decided to retire and hand over Whites International Yachts to Jacqueline and Arend Venema.

Brian and Jill will stay on Mallorca and enjoy their well-deserved retirement on this beautiful island. Jill will support them for a smooth hand over of the brokerage.

Jacqueline and Arend are very happy to continue with the yacht brokerage Whites International Yachts in the same premises and are convinced they are taking over a very well established company with a very good reputation in the brokerage business.

We are more than happy to inform you that Chris Bird and Millie Pickering, who first joined in 2002 will continue to work for Whites International Yachts and share their professional knowledge of the yacht brokerage business with Jacqueline and Arend. Together they have a great deal of experience with selling sailing and motor yachts on the island Mallorca, in New Zealand, Australia, Turkey, Holland and Spain.

Jacqueline and Arend had their own Yacht brokerage business Prins van Oranje in Heeg and Makkum in Holland for 19 years. During their sabbatical year, when they were sailing with their sailing yacht Madam on the Mediterranean, they met Chris and Millie at Nidri Levkada in 2001. They had a great time together in Nidri and enjoyed themselves with fantastic barbecues and even a Christmas swim. It is obvious that they share a great interest in Yachting.

We want to extend the brokerage by continuing with the already large established English market and will start an intensive marketing campaign on the Dutch, Belgian, German, French and Spanish Yachting markets. Whites International Yachts have an important network with 15 colleague yacht brokers on Mallorca and Spain. We also want to extend and improve the Internet Marketing of Whites International Yachts.

We want to continue with one of the most important existing values of Whites International Yachts: Personal customer care and after sale service.

We all hope to meet you soon in our office in Puerto de Andratx at Mallorca. And for more information we are only a phone call away.

Whites for your next boat!
